• Day 32_Censorship goes on

2009-02-12 | Things that I am interested in | censorship Livejournal wikipedia CNN BBC

One thing that has irritated me the most, since I came back to China, is China's notorious censorship. It goes from Movies/TV shows/music to websites, covering almost everything coming from the "EVIL CAPITALIST COUNTRIES".

I don't care about films, for I can download whatever newly released filmes I like from the internet, that makes movie-watching experience easy and comfortable, virtually feel-at-home. Though I can't deny that seeing a movie at the theatre is completely different. Somehow, I can live with movie censorship, as long as movie piracy continues flourishing in China, so does TV piracy.

Hey, those anti-piracy groups/individuals, you have only Chinese big brother to blame. I would rather pay a few hundreds to watch Discovery, starsports, National Geographic, and those on the long list of my-fav-TV-shows, than waste hours and hours of my life downloading, it's time-consuming, effort-consuming, my hard drives suffer, so does my lovely laptop, not to mention violation of intellectual property. But, look, what choice do I get???? I love Supernatual, Medium, SNL, Hustle, Numb2rs, House, CSI, though, it's illegal to install satellite Television on my roof. There is just no way that I can watch those shows through lawful means. On one hand, I don't have guts to go against my beloved big brother. On the other hand, it's sooooooooo killing me if I give up on those TV shows, therefore, I have to go for movie/tv piracy after carefully evaluating the risks and benefits of each and every method available to me.

Still, I can live with movie/tv censorhship.

Music, I am ok with that, for I prefer Chinese music/songs.

The thing that I can tolerate no more is the website censorship. LiveJournal and Wiki are both banned currently. Wiki is unblocked from time to time on the accusation of low press freedom or whatever it is, though much longer period of blockedness than unblockedness; LJ is not half so lucky as Wiki, it's been banned for so long time that I almost forget there is such thing as LJ in the world= =|||

Come on, does anybody really believe that they can keep the Chinese from the outside world by blocking off websites?????????????????????????? We are not blind/deaf, nor stupid, certainly not illiterate, whoever is responsible for this, could you plz drop the idea of censorship... I have had enough of this= =|||

What harm could an online community like LJ do to us???? They talk about nothing but gossips, care about nothing but themselves. When it comes to bashing China, LJ is almost like a generous land, compared with vicious/biased CNN/BBC...
